Some made it to the finish and others didn't, but I think everyone did a fine job at the July 1, 2007 start of the Badwater Solo.

There were some amazing stories of perseverance this year. Connie comes to mind, dealing with fluid/electrolyte issues for many, many hours, and still pressing on.

Dan plugged away at the first 24 miles of the course without crew, driving his car forward a mile, walking back to where he left off, and then walking forward again.

Ben Eakin, age 19, setting a new record as the youngest person ever to run the course, successfully dealt with the additional challenge of being diabetic.

The list goes on. No doubt, everyone who ran experienced difficulties. Many struggled to keep their electrolytes and fluids in balance. Some had serious blisters. All did a beautiful job of dealing with the challenges, whether they ran the whole course or only part.

Runners and crew, PLEASE take time to write up your stories, and post them to the Badwater Forum. People really want to read your story! When you're running or crewing, it's impossible to keep track of what's happening on other parts of the course. The others who were out there want to know what happened to you. And the stories are very helpful for others who dream of running the Badwater to Whitney course someday. Write it up and post it!

Thanks to everyone who shared the past few days with us between Badwater and Mt. Whitney. You're a wonderful bunch of people!

Connie, I will be hitting the replay button tomorrow. I have to finish the course, it was too much for me to look back on stopping. This event was a blast, next year will be even better. Next year I will have a larger crew that will allow me to push onward to the finish. Next year we may be able to fly under the radar, and have a better start.
(July 6th?) You are a very nice person and I wish you the best. Greg

I too and planning a return to the course. Since I didn't do Mt. Whitney, John and I are going back out to do that tomorrow (Saturday, 7/14)
We saw that another runner is planning to start on Sunday, so we will try to meet her at the start or shortly thereafter. See Badwater Solo roster/results page for more information. We haven't met Terry yet, and didn't know she was planning a Crossing until she posted on the Forum. Wishing her the best of luck!

Marcia,

I want to thank you and John and Elizabeth and Holly again for being there for me at my finish.  I'm sure all of you were exhausted.  I saw the pics at the forum that John took of your journey and finish.

Best wishes with you summit attempt.

Marcia and Greg,

Just checked out the results page and see you both returned and finished your respective adventures!

Congrats on going back and staying the course!  I couldn't attempt a summit even though I felt like trying.  We had permits for the 4th and by the time I ended up finishing due to resuming from mile 119 so late on the 4th day, it would have meant a partial night ascent and full night descent into the sunrise the next morning and I didn't to hit the summit in the dark nor descend in it.  I am satisfied, however, with finishing at the portals.  I am blessed to have finished at the portals.

So you did the Mountaineer's Route, Marcia?  Did John go with you?  Was there alot of snow?

To next year!

Everyone,

I just went to Terry Abrams' blog:  www.terryabrams.blogspot.com and an entry by her daughter yesterday at 3:53pm (not sure what time zone that is) says she's in Panamint at mile 72, so she's probably well past there by now!

I LOVE the song that loads when I access the blog:  Melissa Etheridge's "I Run For Life!"

Can't wait to hear about the finish!  Go Terry and crew!

The trip to finish the race will never be forgotten. When we got home our house had been robbed, and my wifes car was stolen. What a way to remember a great trip. Hopefully we will forget the bad and remember the good. Greg. :(

Greg,
I'm so sorry to hear what happened. NOBODY deserves that, but especially not you guys. I hope you can still enjoy your accomplishment without having it tarnished any more than necessary. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers as you sort through the losses.

Marcia

Melissa is blasting in the background as I write this.  Hope our paths cross in the future.

Thanks everybody. It all started heading in the right direction yesterday. The local police found our car undamaged. Shortly there after the thoughts started popping into my head about plans for next years Solo. After all, completing the 135 miles is something that will give me strength to complete anything else life can put in front of me for the rest of my life. I'll be planning on cutting a few hundred hours off my time next year.
