transportation to badwater in June
I am planning an unsupported (I may use caches) off-road trip from Badwater to Whitney summit via the Lowest-to-Highest Trail outlined at http://www.simblissity.net. Are there transportation options to Badwater at the end of June aside from abandoning a car there. Is there a bus? Is hitching unrealistic? Any ideas are welcome. Thank you.

Sounds interesting!
What is your plan for managing water, if you decide not to use caches? Do you have a backup plan for how you will contact someone if things go south? In any case, I'd love to hear more details about your plan.
I don't have any transportation ideas offhand, but I'll keep my ears open. I know of one other person who may be planning a July crossing (by road), but I'm not sure when he would be in the area. I'll let you know if anything comes up.
I hope you're planning to wait until July 1st to start, so you will be eligible for a buckle!

I'm still in the initial stages of planning but I expect this trip will be more of a backpacking fast pack than an ultra. Given the navigational challenges on this route, water weight (considerable even after caching), likelihood of snow at higher elevations even before Whitney, and my solo approach, I'm going to make this a three day recon mission carrying minimal overnight gear (5 lbs.+ water and food). Taking my time and carrying gear will greatly lower the risks involved. Gathering beta along the route will help if I try for speed on the route another time. Although fourty-eight hours is very doable (easy to say now), doesn't earning the buckle require participation in the race along its course?
