I found an interesting article by Lulu Weschler entitled, "Risks of Drinking Too Much."

Here's the link at the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association, Inc. website:

http://www.ultracycling.com/nutrition/nutrition.html

There is also a link at the website to take you to the Exercise-Associated Hyponatremia (EAH) consensus statement at online Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine.

There are also many other interesting and informative articles at the Ultra Marathon Cycling Association website by other authors.

I want to add that I do understand the importance of keeping the forum postings appropriate to the Badwater venue, as ultra marathon cycling is not ultra marathon running. I want to add that I am very new to ultrarunning, having run only four ultras myself this year (50k-50m), all within a two month period. I have no experience as a participant in multi-sport competitions longer than the Olympic distance, and the most running experience I have is at the 26.2 marathon distance. I have no experience as crew/runner at Badwater or in any other venue in such extreme heat. I am posting articles I find of interest because I believe the more information, the better. Some may be of little use at Badwater, while others are useful. Again, a caveat regarding the EAH Consensus Statement is that it does *not* adequately address the specific needs of those at Badwater as the ultra references in the Statement are from events with conditions not similar to Badwater. As we all know, extrapolating study results does not always work.

I'm hoping people in the know at Badwater will post more about hyponatremia and other important medical issues; I'm just trying to learn as much as I can.

Thanks everyone,

Trampler
