This is a very useful guide to just about everything about your badwater experience.  I read it frequently.  It also talks about the theories of rest breaks better than I can ever describe.

My only advice is not to plan your rest periods too closely. When you get out there, it will be pretty clear when you need a rest. If you can avert a bonk by resting, that is good. But I think a rest will not always prevent you from having to rest again later.
If you DO rest, make the absolute most of it, though. Sit down in whatever shade you can find, cover yourself with wet towels, fix your feet, eat, drink, sleep---whatever you need most.
Remember that (for us mortals, anyway) anytime you stop, you may have to break through a significant pain barrier to get going again. Expect your feet to hurt when you start up again. If you practice good foot care, know that they will feel better after the first couple miles. But...there is something to be said for not stopping any more often than you must.
