A heartfelt "Congratulations!" goes out to Coach Scott Weber www.coachweber.com, who I had the pleasure to crew at the BWUM.  Scott has completed more crossings of this magical course than only Marshall Ulrich, and it was not only a pleasure to spend time with and learn from him, but to spend time with his beautiful wife, Laura, who has crewed him now for the ninth time.  It was Coach Weber and his darling son, Ben, who made all the difference (in addition to my wonderful crew, of course) last year in my solo crossing.  I was struggling and Coach Weber's calm presence and expert advice, along with his son Ben's intestinal fortitude, helped me push on...

There are many things about the race I will remember fondly but my most precious memory was being along for the ride to see Scott and Laura ascend to the portals.  It was teamwork of two people that has instilled in me the realization that love overcomes all.  :)

Congratulations to all runners and crew who gave their all, both at the BWUM and during the solos.  Congats to Terry Abrams on her solo double crossing, to Anita Fromm on her BWUM women's double record and to Danny Westergaard on his BWUM double.  Can't wait to read race reports; I hope people post them here.  I'm working on mine now and will post it soon.

Also, a huge "Thank you!" to Chris Kostman and Crew for all their tireless work to make this race a reality.

Many more happy trails,

Connie Karras

Seconding the part about looking forward to race reports, from runners and crew both! Those of us who weren't in Death Valley this summer need our fix, you know.  :)

Holly!

How are you and Elizabeth?  Think you two can be in Death Valley next year?  I plan to apply for the 2009 BWUM and if not accepted, plan to do my solo then instead (had to cancel it this year due to work commitments).

Would be great to see you gals out there again, pipes a playin' or not!

Happy trails,

Connie Karras
